You’ve got to take breaks every once in a while when you’re traveling with kids!
The drive from Salem going towards Detroit/Sisters/Bend on Highway 22 is absolutely beautiful. But it’s a long one.
If you and your family are ever headed that way and need to get out of the car for a little while…you know, for the sake of everyone’s sanity…Kimmel Park in Mill City is the perfect place to let your kids run it out!
Located just a few minutes off of Highway 22 in Mill City, and settled along the beautiful Santiam River, Kimmel Park has it all. There are two separate play structures for older kids, a toddler play area, a merry-go-round, swings, bathrooms on site and a large covered picnic area. You can’t ask for much more.
We just recently found out that this playground existed. We were driving home from Bend. The kids were super restless. They were sick and tired of being strapped down in their car seats. (I can’t blame them for that!) We passed a sign for the park and decided to turn around and check it out.
I’m so glad that we did.
Our kids ran and played nonstop for about 40 minutes- until the sun started to go down. They were just so happy to be free!
My husband and I were happy to get out too.
And the views. Wow. The trees and the river and the mountains. It was an absolutely gorgeous place to be.
